The Presbytery of East Tennessee which consists of the Cumberland Presbyterian churches in the East Tennessee region owns the camp and operates Camp John Speer through a volunteer board of directors.
Rev. John Speer, Rev. Joe Manos, and Mrs. Marian Shelton were originally commissioned by the presbytery to search for a campsite. In 1960 the purchase of the property now known as Camp John Speer became a reality.
John Speer’s dream lives on in the experiences of those who come to this mountain and find God’s peace and acceptance.
